For a long time, I have been searching for some cheap art for our newly redone guest bedroom. Considering the very tight budget we are on in this room, it has been pretty difficult to find something that meets my criteria. But lo and behold, I think I may have finally solved my problem...well, at least on one wall...let me explain.
A few weeks back, I was reading this post over at The Lettered Cottage. I loved, loved, loved the bird art she featured on her spring mantel and considered duplicating it for my own. But then I had an epiphany. You see, I had already purchased this adorable bird candleholder from CB2 for our guest bedroom (for only $7.95 people!!!):
With the bird already hanging out, I figured my bird art might be better served in the guest bedroom. And that I was going to take it to the next level...yep, not just one bird...multiple birds!!! Using the black, white, yellow theme of the room, I created these fun bird prints. Check out my final product:
This was such an easy project to take on (maybe my easiest ever!) and the grand total cost...$0 (I already had everything). So, here's the details in case you want to give it a try. You will need:
- 2 frames
- 2 pieces cardstock, cut to fit frames
- 1 piece cardstock for birds
- glue
- pencil
- scissors
To start, save the bird image in Microsoft word. This will allow you to resize it. I did it in four different sizes at first because I wasn't sure which would work best in the frame. Once you have your images printed out, trace them on to the paper. If you put the bird image on top of the cardstock and trace heavily in pencil, the line will go through to the cardstock. This way, you only have to cut the bird out once (well, once for each one you want!). Something like this (pardon the crappy phone picture...I was doing this in my classroom...by the way, the first graders were VERY impressed, but then again, it doesn't take much):
Once the birds are traced and cut out, it's time to play around with laying them out on the cardstock. I rearranged mine a few times before ending up on the final layout. Once done, just glue the birds down on to the cardstock, insert it into frames, and hang. Again, for the final product:Not too shabby, heh? I don't know what it is recently, but I just love me some bird decor! Anyone else?
It's cute! I'd make it but my husband has put the kibosh on any more bird decor....an aviary is what he called our house. I might have gone a little overboard?
