***Today is the last day to enter my giveaway...and it happens to be to Target (where you can get plenty of Peanut Butter World...it will make sense if you read the post), so click here to enter!***
Here in Virginia Beach we are once again bracing ourselves for a potential brush with a hurricane this weekend. While I usually rightfully assume the meteorologists are embellishing these storms' potential, this one may honestly go down as "the big one" around here...it is forecasted to pass directly over us late Saturday evening. I've been through this many times before (although none have actually hit, just forecasted), and usually get myself a couple good bottles of wine and get prepared to "ride it out." This year, though, I won't be able to watch the wind and rain with my good friend Riesling, so I'm turning to the next best thing.
Chocolate and peanut butter is my all-time favorite combo. As in, I obsess over the stuff. My Pinterest food board is proof (I think there are like 6 or 7 different pins on there for chocolate/peanut butter concoctions). With the newsmen telling us it was time to gather the non-perishables, I decided to whip up one of those pins.
These chocolate peanut butter snack bars come courtesy of www.howsweeteats.com. Of course, I've already tried them. They are definitely more of a snack bar than a dessert, as in they're not overly sweet or decadent, but more filling and satisfying...but chocolate/peanut butter nonetheless, so definitely worth a shot if you like the combo too. I followed her recipe exactly (except I didn't have whole wheat flour, so I just used regular), so you can find it at the link if you are interested.
Considering we may be dealing with Irene for quite some time, I needed a little more chocolate peanut butter in my arsenal. Friends of ours are major Ben and Jerry fans, like they get flavor update emails and everything. A few weeks ago, they informed me of a Target exclusive flavor called Peanut Butter World.
Yep, it's sold only at Target...further proof that that place is the greatest place on Earth. Well, I tried it, and now it's part of my nightly routine. The stuff may very well be the BEST ice cream I have ever had. Seriously, I have 2 pints in my freezer as we speak just in case I don't make it back to Target in time for some more! This one's totally perishable, so I guess if Irene does wreak her havoc, I will have to down it pretty quickly (shouldn't be a problem considering the bulk of my pregnancy weight gain can probably already be directly attributed to Mr. Ben and Jerry).
If you're in Irene's path, I suggest you head out and stock up on your necessities as well...you know, wine and chocolate peanut butter stuff. If not, stock up anyway! Enjoy your weekend.
