Sandy (*meant to be sung like in Grease)

Seriously, I've had that song in my head for the last few days, and unless you've been living under a rock.  Yes, Hurricane Sandy passed off our coast and the result was about 48 hours of rain, wind, being stuck inside, and watching repetitive local news coverage (sprinkled in with some "Mickey Mouse Clubhouse" when Colton decided he wanted to watch his tv).
The first day of it Colton had a birthday party to go to and then we had a Steelers game to watch, so we got out of the house a bit.  But Monday, we were inside in our jammies all day!  Luckily (maybe?), Josh was still getting over his bout with the flu, so he was actually home with us!  As a result, we had a whole day of good ole family fun.
Of course, there was lots of playing, but we also had some pumpkin tending to take care of.  When he had picked out our pumpkin to carve, Colton had actually insisted that we paint it (I have no idea where he came up with that but he was very insistent!).  So, part of our morning was spent painting our pumpkin.

While the paint was drying, Colton and I went ahead and tackled another project: baking a cake for Papa's birthday (that we surprised him with at work the next day).
And then after lunch when our pumpkin was good and dry, we got to work carving it.  Or more appropriately, Josh got to work carving it.  Every year, my husband gets really into this task and makes it much more complicated than it needs to be!  The kids had a good time hitting the pumpkin, scooping it, etc, but when it came time to actually carve...well, Josh pretty much monopolized that task, but that's ok!

We are a family that is always seem to be on the go, especially on weekends when Josh is with us.  So it was  actually really nice to slow it down for a day and spend some time just enjoying each other.
